A civic, commercial and academic mission to Monclova was planned September 24-26, 2008 to strengthen relationships and business between Central Texas and Monclova, Mexico, according to Dr. Jack Mogab, Center for Latin American Commerce, McCoy College of Business Administration, Texas State University-San Marcos.
The mission was partially funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Business and International Education Program. Participants included public officials, chamber executives, and Texas State faculty. Eight positions were available for business representatives interested in expanding their trade in Monclova. The city of Monclova has specific interest in developing relationships with manufacturers, suppliers, agents or distributors in the medical, steel, solar, and agriculture industries.
Cost of the program was approximately $250-$300 per person. An extensive program, coordinated by Texas State, was planned to bring the Central Texas representatives together with their counterparts in Monclova. Deadline for submitting an application was August 8, 2008.
Mr. Richard W Fisher, President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, was recognized by the Latin American Business Advisory Council for his support and contributions to international business at its annual award banquet on June 28, 2008.
Congressman Henry Cuellar received an award from the Latin American Business Advisory Council on October 28 2006, for his support and cooperation in expanding Latin American business at Texas State University-San Marcos.
